Ronald McDonald House: Help A Family In Need This Holiday Season

| December 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

I have an issue to resolve.

It’s something that’s been bothering me for a few days now.  It’s more of an annoyance really.  But I really need to do something about it soon.  And here’s the weird thing… you may be having the same issue this holiday season.

What’s my disappointing admission?

I’m having a hard time getting into the holiday spirit…

I know, I know, it’s a tough thing to come to grips with.  But there’s no doubt about it, the holiday spirit has yet to hit me this year.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it’s a balmy 70 degrees here in Phoenix, Arizona.  And of course, there’s not a flake of snow to be found.

To me, that’s a bit of a letdown.

You see, I grew up in the wonderfully snowy state of Montana.

Each holiday season was pretty much guaranteed to have freezing temperatures and plenty of snow.  I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about a chill in the air and snow on the ground that ignites the holiday spirit in me.

But the only sign of snow here in Phoenix are inflatable Frosty The Snowmen on cactus-filled front yards.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the holiday spirit has escaped me.  I had the same grinchy condition last holiday season.  In fact, ever since I moved to Arizona, it’s been a challenge to get the holiday juices flowing.

But there is a solution…

Each year I get myself into the holiday spirit by doing one simple thing. And if you have the same problem I do, this is a simple fix to warm your heart and get you in the holiday spirit.

What is it?

Giving to a family in need this holiday season…

There’s something about giving that sets off a rush of feel-good emotions.  Not only are you assisting a family in need, you’re also setting the true spirit of the holidays in motion.

At the risk of sounding like a cheesy holiday card, giving is truly the ‘reason for the season’.  Even if you can’t afford much, giving a little goes a long way in making this holiday season a little brighter for a family in need.

My charity of choice is the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it’s a harrowing experience for the whole family.  And unfortunately, this holiday season finds many children enduring this painful battle.

Now’s the perfect time to give them a helping hand.

In most cases, families have to travel great distances so their children can get the best care possible.  It doesn’t take long before expenses pile up due to food and lodging.  And it’s not uncommon for a family’s finances to get completely turned upside down because of it.

That’s where Ronald McDonald House comes in.

This noble institution provides housing, meals, and emotional support for families treating a child’s illness.  Their wonderful services help ease the financial pain of costly short-term living expenses.

So go ahead and get your holiday spirit in gear by giving to a family in need.  It sure works for me; hopefully it will for you too!
